PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The President/CEO provides leadership for all aspects of the Chamber’s operations with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit, and return on investment.  This executive leadership role serves as the organization’s representative to the Board of Directors, employees, and business members.

The President/CEO is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce. Responsible for the development of a strategic plan and implementation of a program of work through effective and efficient utilization of resources to serve, protect, and promote the business membership, and provide the leadership and public visibility required to enhance the overall business environment and the quality of life within our community.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advisor to the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, keeping them informed of the conditions and operation of the Chamber and all-important factors influencing its members.
  • In conjunction with the Chamber’s volunteer leadership, develops tactical plans to accomplish the Chamber’s mission – To champion a thriving business community and a prosperous region through visionary leadership and collaboration.
  • Anticipates emerging and long-range problems, issues, and needs for business members, and develops strategies to address concerns and needs. Takes an active role and is visible with the individual Chamber members and seeks to understand their needs and desires by seeking and responding to regular feedback.
  • Actively works to assist businesses by providing start-up guidance, ongoing business training opportunities, knowledge sharing (networking) opportunities, and counseling to members on problems affecting the local economy, responsible for positive public relations for the Chamber. 
  • Oversees the organization's financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Develops policies to assure adequate funding of the Chamber’s programs and operations, and as needed, raises funds for various Chamber programs and community projects.
  • Maintains an effective relationship and professional partnership with City, County and State Government, the Greater Fremont Development Council, the Dodge County Visitors Bureau, Main Street of Fremont, Midland University, and other organizations as necessary. Meets regularly with the entities previously mentioned and updates them on Chamber activities where appropriate.
  • Serves as the chief spokesperson for the Chamber.
  • Recommends appointments of chairperson of councils, as well as members of the board as per the process outlined in the Chamber bylaws.
  • With advice and counsel of the Board Chairperson, develops agendas for all executive committee, board, and council meetings.
  • Promotes interest and active participation in the Chamber of Commerce activities on the part of the membership and reports activities of the Chamber to the membership and the public by maintaining a comprehensive public relations program including media interaction, public speaking, and group presentations as necessary.
  • Represents the Chamber of Commerce at community business activities and functions, including evening and weekend appearances.
  • Develops an organizational structure, management strategies, and staff development processes to effectively manage and develop staff to their maximum potential.
  • Directly supervises Chamber employees in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and compensation; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversees the Chamber’s tactical operations including technology needs, equipment and repairs, property maintenance.
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or related field and over five years of work experience in public administration, chamber of commerce, economic development, or business management.
  • Experience and knowledge of finance, budgeting, marketing, public relations, and analytical and statistical skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively with and have existing positive relationships with community and business leaders, as well as key elected officials.
  • Some travel required.
