We are currently seeking a reliable individual to join the Omaha Steel team as a Melter (Induction Furnace).
 
Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills:
  • Performs proper refractory maintenance to the furnace lining to include measuring & patching
  • Ability to count molds on pouring floor to identify completed heats
  • Capable of accurately weighing charge materials and alloy additions per recipe
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to make the correct alloy adjustments per meltdown results
  • Comprehends and adheres to all prescribed melting procedures
  • Maintains accurate melting records for each heat
  • The ability to assist shakeout and pouring crew when needed
  • Possess the basic operating knowledge of the Inductotherm furnaces, and ancillary equipment
  • Safely operate overhead cranes with various rigging attached
  • Ability to safely & efficiently melt independently on either the 600kW or 1500 kW furnace
Entry Level Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Advanced math skills to include understanding of decimals and percentages
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and elements
  • Ability to utilize a tape measure and analog scale
  • Must have the ability to repetitively lift up to 100 lbs. (employees are encouraged to seek assistance when lifting over 50 lbs. and assistance is readily available.)
  • Work in or near extremes in temperatures and dusty environment
  • Work directly with molten metal (3,000 degrees plus) and sparks from molten metal
  • Able to follow both verbal and written instructions and complete assigned tasks in an unsupervised manner
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have reliable attendance, willing to work flexible hours, & work well with others
  • Must perform other duties as assigned
