Respiratory Protection & Fit Testing & Respiratory Protection & Fit Testing Train-the-Trainer - Columbus NE
Respirators are required when employees must work in environments with insufficient oxygen or where harmful dusts, smokes, mists, fumes, gases, vapors, or sprays are present. Working in these environments without a respirator creates a serious health hazard for the employee which may cause cancer, lung impairment, heart disease, other diseases, or even death.
Respirators are among the most important pieces of protective equipment for working in hazardous environments.
Many assume the objective of a fit test is face piece sizing. Although this is a very important element of fit testing, the primary reason to fit test an individual is to verify that he or she has been trained to wear a respirator and has, in fact, learned how to put on the face piece correctly. If a person does not know how to use the equipment, the respirator will be less effective, regardless of whether or not it is the right size.
