TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Movers for Moms® Collects Gifts for Women in Local Shelters
Mother's Day should be a happy time for all moms. Unfortunately, many moms are forced to spend this holiday living in community shelters, the victims of domestic abuse or homelessness. For these women, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has initiated Movers for Moms®, a community-based program collecting simple treasures.
Started by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Michigan franchisees in 2008, Movers for Moms is expanding to 10 states and more than 55 franchises in 2011. In Omaha, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK will collect essential items for women staying at the YWCA.
The items we will be collecting are:
- Combs, brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair accessories, soft pillows, slippers, night wear, robes, shoes, size 12 and up career clothing, black slacks, nice tops, jackets, shoes, stockings, purses and costume jewelry
We will be collecting these items at Hy-Vee and YMCAs in Omaha from April 17-30. They will then be taken to the YWCA to be distributed to the women staying at the shelter.
The YWCA offers:
- 24-hr hotline for domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse
- Domestic violence and sexual abuse advocacy---safety planning for you, your children and your pets, emergency needs, Protection orders
- Counseling services
- Non-violence services for men and women
- Domestic violence and prevention programs for all ages
The YWCA also provides a Women in Transition program to help women become contributing members of society. Women need access to education and training to prepare for participation in the workforce.
In addition to partnering with Hy-Vee Food stores and YMCA, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK welcomes support for Movers for Moms from local businesses and other organizations interested in bringing a smile to the faces of less fortunate women on Mother's Day.
