Library Aide (Part Time, 30 hours per week)

Library Aide (Part-Time)
Pay Range: $13.80 - $19.42

NATURE OF WORK

This is library support work assisting in the operation of Keene Memorial Library. The planned schedule will be at least 1 night a week and every other weekend, plus 1 or 2 shifts during the week - this position is a required 30 hours a week.  Weekday hours to be determined. Scheduling may change based on staff’s availability. Work involves performance of various library and public service duties which may include circulation, providing assistance to library patrons in the location of books and materials and the operation of library equipment including basic computer and software instruction. Subject to supervision and review by a professional librarian.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Greets customers, explains library policies and procedures, checks materials in and out.
  • Assists readers in using the online catalog and locating materials.
  • Works with electronic resources available through the library website.
  • Assists library customers completing membership applications, processes applications and issues new library cards.
  • Assists the public in use of computers, printers, photocopier, and other equipment.
  • Shelves and maintains materials in order, notifies customers of reserve materials & interlibrary loans; performs data entry.
  • Collects fines and fees per library policies.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

CONDITIONS OF WORK

  • Work takes place in a normal library environment.
  • Duties require considerable standing, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, seeing small numbers and hearing questions from co- workers or customers.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Community college or higher preferred.
  • Prefer public library experience.
  • Knowledge of computer operation, keyboarding and data entry
  • Modern office methods, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Learn standard library practices and procedures
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Perform a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Perform tasks in a timely, accurate manner
  • Must be able to alphabetize quickly and easily.

Library Aides must be available to work during the day, in order to meet the schedule requirements.  A minimum of one night per week and every other weekend is also required.
